Alas – Monument to Identity and Progress
October 2014 - Colegio de Arquitectos de Irapuato
Entry for a local competition in my hometown (Irapuato, Guanajuato) to design and build a monument to honor the city’s strawberry farming and exporting heritage and its industrial future. I was supported by my uncle Architect Saúl Ruiz who runs his own Architectural practice, he was humble and kind enough to accept my naive concepts and suggested a way to build this. The fluid 20 m long structure represented openness to new opportunities while the strawberry texture in the pond’s bottom represented the city’s well established agricultural environment. We did this in less than a week, working after hours and overnight a few days. I learned a lot about these topics, and certainly I wouldn’t approach something like this the same way again.
